Ok just to help the more numerically challenged among us...

Since you can buy 10 marbles per character... if you and your mules or you and a bunch of friends coordinate your number selection you can play for free.

Just have each character end their number with the digits 00-99 and 1 of you will get 100,000G.

For example:
Character 1 selects 11100,11101,11102..11108,11109
Character 2 selects 23410,23411,23412..23418,23419
Character 3 selects xxx20,xxx21,xxx22..xxx28,xxx29

The first 3 digits don't matter!

Maybe someone will get lucky and hit something bigger.

This means you could select the Behemoth Hide and make a profit guranteed.

Also, every character is guranteed to win the XP prize this way.

100 Characters can Win 1,000,000 guranteed. How you divide things up though is quite problematic. My group is letting winner pay off at 50% of prize. So really my group is playing for half price. We are buying xx000 through xx999.

Of course if 1 person picks all the same numbers and hits all 5 digits well it is 1 BILLION Gil they will be walking away with lol.

Good Luck to All!!!

You don't need to be a genius to work this out.

The reward gets greater as you introduce more characters. For example:

100 characters (1,000 marbles) can guarantee 1x Rank 3 prize, 10x Rank 4 prizes as well as 100x EXP scrolls / Rank 5 prizes.

1,000 characters (10,000 marbles) can guarantee 1x Rank 2 prize, 10x Rank 3 prizes, 100x Rank 4 prizes, 1,000x EXP scrolls/Rank 5 prizes.

10,000 characters (100,000 marbles / every combination) can guarantee 1x Rank 1 prize, 10x Rank 2 prizes, 100x Rank 3 prizes, 1,000x Rank 4 prizes and 10,000x EXP scrolls/Rank 5 prizes. If you take the Gil from these you end up with:

100,000,000 + (10x 10,000,000) + (100x 1,000,000) + (1,000x 100,000) = 400,000,000

Split that by 10,000 characters and it works out at 40,000/character? 30,000 profit a piece and no Gil lost to SE. Obviously, you could opt for 1x Rank 1 item and 300,000,000 etc..etc.. switching all kinds of ways to make it more profitable.

All I need now is 9,997 more friends.

the real winners are those who will pick the exclusive items, because if all these people are getting extra gil that = inflation and the supply of all those sellables will go up tremendiously causing the price to fall considerably

I'm somewhat curious how bad the inflation will be, so I did a little math.

The recent census mentioned there are 500,000 "community members." I don't know if this means characters or accounts and I don't know what percentage of those players are active.

500,000 people divided by 32 servers is 15,625 players. Let's say the average community member has between three and four characters and just say that 50,000 players on each server will buy the maximum of 10 entries.

Assuming an even distribution of winners, 5 people per server will win 100 million gold. Ten times as many people will win one tenth of that, etc. In total there are four gil prizes, so 2 billion gil will be handed out per server. However, one of those layers will be lost in the cost of buying the entries, so the net gain will be 1.5 billion gil.

If you follow the Special Task Force reports, this isn't too far from the amount of gil removed each month from the banning of RMT across all servers.

In other words, it's a lot of gil. Inflation will be bad. I recommend buying anything on your wish list before the payout begins.

However, I'm not sure inflation will be so bad to drive the current cost of a Salvage piece from 7 millionish to over 100 million. Also, the pricey part of Salvage gear is one of the prizes so that could actually cause some deflation. I personally also wouldn't choose an HQ abjuration piece over 100 million gil, but if someone already had a ton of gil I could see them getting it. Also, they talking about lowering the cost of Dynamis which would be a huge deflationary force.

Any way you see it, this Bonanza the HQ synthing thingy and the Dynamis price change are probably going to wreak havoc on the in game economy.

heres some more math for you...
if you were able to buy all 99,999 possible numbers it'd cost 999.999k
you'd win 1 rank 1 (100mil), 8 rank 2 (80mil), 90 rank 3 (90mil), 900 rank 4 (90mil), and 9000 exp scrolls. totaling 360 mil, a profit of 260 mil gil

not really possible due to the number of characters it would require, but if you assume each of those 500k community members gets an average of 10 trys (could be more or less based on number of characters and willingness to participate) 500k x 10 trys x 1k = 500mil taken out of game to buy the tickets, and 1.8 billion added back to the winners.

I did actually realise a flaw in my math. You wouldn't win 1x rank 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 for the winning combination so it'd end up

1x Rank 1, 9x Rank 2, 90x Rank 3, 900x Rank 4, 9000x Rank 5

Not

1x Rank 1, 10x Rank 2, 100x Rank 3, 1000x Rank 4, 10000x Rank 5.

Still, a healthy sum of money.

More fun with math!

If you were to buy all 100,000 entries, you would need 10,000 characters each buying ten entries. Each account can have up to 20 characters on it at a price of $12.95 for the first character and $1 for each additional character. You'd need 500 accounts with the maximum 20 characters each. I think the way they set it up, you'll need those accounts all active for at least two months. 500 accounts at $31.95 a month for two months is $31,950. So much for your new car...

At a profit of 270 million gil this is an exchange rate of $118.33 per million gil. Looking to my right, (/sigh) I see this is about four times the going rate.

wouldnt it be great if everyone just DIDNT buy the mog balls and just said screw you SE and went to play conan?
i mean seriously, this is all a big scam for SE to get more money out of the game before it dies (yes it will die)

think about this:

SE says they have 500,000 users. say each one of them only purchases ONE mule. they are still making 500,000 more dollars than they would otherwise. now you have to keep the account for 3 months. thats 1.5 M they are making if everyone only purchases ONE mule. let's think how much it costs SE to give out 100M gil and good items: 0.00. and you KNOW everyone that wins and picks gil is going to be monitored in case they sell it to RMT or what not. i see no downside for SE in this mog bonanza, except maybe that it will be their own downfall in breaking every single economy.

so lets all cross our fingers and hope that they invest this extra cash flow into making their next MMORPG better than ffxi.

This is likely why SE felt they could roll out a few horrible updates and a super weak 15th event... They know they have people hooked until after this.

The upside is, I hope the next update is amazing.
