Pretty sure the crash you're experiencing is because the pre 12/12 recast plugin doesn't work and windower is autoloading recast from the init file. You said you can run FFXI w/o windower and your windowed version crashes at accept/decline screen which suggests you still have a broken plugin. It might be that it's a different one to recast but also set to autoload from the init. You could try removing the autoloaded ones and see if you have any success. Lakshmi.Venividivici

Ok ii will try that again
before i do i am going to List the plugins I have in the folder ConsoleBG.dll Distance.dll Recast.dll >>>>>>>>>>>>> Updated again to make sure Silence.dll SSOrganizer.dll Timestamp.dll TParty.dll all of them are not being loaded by the ini file: //load TParty //load TimeStamp //load SSOrganizer //load Silence load Recast //load Distance //load ConsoleBG Lakshmi.Venividivici

nothing
:/ upgrading graphic card drivers to see if that has anything to do with it most likely it does not. Are you just getting to the accept/decline screen and then getting POL.exe has crashed or however it goes? No error messages or anything?
I know you said you tried a new installation, was that FFXI and/or windower? Edit: Been looking through the other thread of folks having issues and some have had success with a file check. Could try that. Lakshmi.Venividivici

I'm able to input my password log on fine select play twice then as it is transferring from pol to accept/decline screen it stops on a white screen. No error message.
The new instalation was for windower I was thinking of doing a file check trying that now . Lakshmi.Venividivici

Resolt of file check
No problems were found. Did you run file check for both POL and FFXI?

I think that was only for pol, how do i go about checking the ffxi files?
Hang on i'll log out and check exactly what the menus say.
Okay, in the login screen of POL there's a left hand column.
Click check files. You'll then be taken to a screen which says check if there are any problems yada yada yada. Around halfway down it says "Select playonline compatible software" and by default the playonline viewer is set to be checked. Directly to the left of the playonline viewer setting there's a wee symbol that looks like an up and a down arrow. Click that and it will list playonline, FFXI and tetra master. Select FFXI. Check files. Lakshmi.Venividivici

You are remembering to Right Click > Run as Admin, right?

Strangely enough, that will stop Windower from working with Windows 8 so OP if you've set that to be the case try disabling it then running as Admin. Lakshmi.Venividivici

#Windower 3.3 Config File #Final Fantasy XI window resolution x-resolution = 1920 y-resolution = 1050 #PlayOnlineViewer Language (JP, US, or EU) language = US #Windower Console Key console-key = insert #------------Registry Settings For GUI Launcher------- #all commands for gui must start with # #commands prefixed with / will be ignored #background-x = 2048 #background-y = 2048 #enviro-animation = 2 #texture-compression = 2 #mipmaps = 1 #maxsounds = 12 my screen resolution is 1920 x 1080 yeah also checked the x64 After googling I've found that some people have had success with settings their Launcher GUIs to true fullscreen and having windowed mode enabled in FFXI Config.
Is your login on your computer an administrator login? Edit: Do you have any compatability settings for windower/pol/ffxi? I read that any compatability settings whatsoever causes crashing on win8. Not just having run as admin checked. Edit 2: I just logged back in and looked at what windower actually does at the time of the crash. Now with this sort of stuff I don't really know much but aside from loading plugins it loads MMF input from keyboard, or something along those lines. Do you have that enabled? Fenrir.Scragg said: » I believe FFXI w/o windower works fine on win8 unless you are not doing a clean install and moving from XP or below. Windower is unique in that it is a hook for POL/FFXI and extends the functionality. It will read memory of the hooked process and intercept windows API calls. A windower dev can correct me if I'm wrong there. I believe this is why Windows requires Windower to be run as admin. A stricter default security policy by the OS can break stuff. From what I learned, a clean install of both Win8 and FFXI is the best way to go if you are looking to upgrade to Windows 8. From a different thread, won't link the thread as it's not worth reading and was quickly re-railed. I don't know if any of the above is relevant to you? |
