Necro Bump: Prompt Message Suggestion

I wanted to start this thread to gather the opinions of other members about this topic, Necro Bumping old threads. I personally don't hate them, others find them very annoying, but I wanted to touch up on the bumpee. I believe that users aren't intentionally bumping old threads on purpose, they just happen to be reading a thread that interests them and necro bump it by mistake not realizing the age of the topic. Also, I find that many users use the forum search (when it is working) to find a topic they are looking for and end up wanting to comment on it not realizing the last post was made 2 years ago.

It isn't difficult to find out the age of a certain topic or when the last post was, it is all recorded for everyone to view, but I think users just overlook it most of the time. I think some users who do necro bump would take it back if they could because all they wanted to do was make a small comment on some post in the topic.

I'm not going as far as to say we shouldn't have the Necro Bump message above posts that do bump old threads because then there would be no way for the bumpee to know they bumped a 2 year old thread without actually looking at the dates between both posts. I think it is a good idea to have it, I just think some users would benefit from having some kind of warning before they necro bump by mistake.

So this is my suggestion. I think it would benefit every user, new and old, if after we clicked submit it would give us a prompt warning us we are about to necro bump a topic we may not actually want to bring back from the dead.


Something as simple as this would be enough I believe. It would give users a chance to back out if all they wanted to do is make a small simple comment, but don't want to bump a 2 year old thread.

I would like to hear the opinions of others on this topic, and whether or not they would like a prompt message as well. For those who do not wish to post I included a small poll so you can just click and be done with it. I know necro bumping isn't a big deal at all, but I think it would be nice for users to confirm they actually want to bump the thread before they make a mistake.

I'm a bit torn on it. Bumping old threads is annoying to some people, but making multiple threads on the same topic is also annoying. So let's say for example that we have 8,764 political threads going on, since that's not far off. ;; Would it be preferable to have multiple threads, or would it be preferable to keep necro'ing the same old thread for all politics? Either one is going to annoy some people, but to the community as a whole, which is preferred? I like to try to not actively annoy people if I can help it, so knowing which of the two options is the least annoying would help with the decision.

Would be nice if there was an auto prompt checking to see if people used the search bar for existing threads so we don't end up with 105981239058205 duplicates like we typically do.

Bumping a 1-3 pages is reasonable. Bumping a 5+ pages is annoying...

This kinda. I never understood why it bothered people so much if something was Necrobumped, especially if it's a topic relevent to current situations but doesnt have a new thread/or fails to be mentioned in any new threads. Buuut that's just me.

My fault, I meant approximately 8+ pages, but from 2-7 is usually derail, repeated insults and women pulling their hairs from each others. I least a necro bump of a 1-3 pages, all of us will be aware which direction the thread is heading.

But in all seriousness, what does it matter if ppl revive old threads? If it bothers you so much learn to read the dates! And as it was mentionned earlier, better necro bumping than 10 treads about the same topic.
