Main: Khanda +1 DA+9
Sub: Khanda DA+7
EarSlot: Brutal DA+5
Trait: DA+10
Atma of Voracious Violet: DA+10
Total Double Attack:41%

DA can proc on both the main hand and off hand. Thoughts? I want to know any reasons as to why this would be a bad idea.

Dumb to focus purely on sword DOT imo.

I'd say it's a bad idea cause last time I ptd on blu with just sometimes items 1 5 refresh atma and my own refresh I pretty much spammed DD spell. Sometimes had a hard time getting tp between CAs with a 2-3 swd

What's wrong with trying to increase DoT? High damage swords constantly swing twice seems like a nice increase to me. Plus with a proper sanguine blade build, you will be hitting around 1k. That seems great to me.

It's a bad idea because 80%+ of your DPS isn't going to be affected by DA.

To elaborate, Brutal is still best in slot for TP and non-Sanguine Blade WS. Minikin/VV combo is epic win for Abyssea, but setting DA trait has an opportunity cost of something like 8 STR, or a fair bit of utility depending on your priorities. DA Khandas are outclassed because our best WS in non-self-SC situations is Sanguine Blade (can't DA) and all that refresh leads to a shitton of spell spam (also can't DA). You'd benefit far more from dual STR swords.

Diminishing returns only matters vs. something like Haste.

Basically this. It's by far the lesser portion of your damage, don't sacrifice spell damage in any significant quantity for the sake of your melee DPS.

I feel as if I have enough STR already. You get 50 str from Atma of voracious violet and I get +20 from npc buffs. I forget how much str I have in my physical build atm but it's over 55ish I'm sure.

WSC doesn't cap. There's no such thing as "enough".

And your DA isn't helping you.

Because you are lowering the amount of spells you can cast by alot. An decently lowering the dmg of each one. Also 1k sanguine blades are pretty awesome... but it's much more awesome to do a 400 savage blade to start a distortion skillchain that ends with a 2k quad

If you are not getting any outside refreshes and only have the 5 refresh atmas using the DA one is literally halfing your refresh

I know we all love to eyeball our constant high damage Quad's but I feel as if we sacrifice a little bit of damage we can gain a little more overall.

Yeah, dimishing returns. And the fact that in Abyssea your overall damage is spell, not melee. Not saying to neglect your TP set, but you would honestly be better off with x2 STR Shamshir +1's.

You aren't sacrificing a little. Going from 9 to 4 refresh can litterally cut the number of spells you cast by 1/2 (much more if you had the 10 refresh atma). That isn't counting the loss of stats from swds and setting spells

If you're only casting QC, you're not casting enough. And you're giving up more than just "a little".

Lol yeah last pt I was in I was casting at least 2 DD spells per mob usually 3-4. I'd solo mobs faster than the other like 8 or so DDs would take to kill one sometimes (ie anytime CA was up)

Well I spam Goblin's, quad and benthic(Not in that order) and still find time to Sanguine using STR sticks.

Of course you'll find time. That doesn't change the fact that spells are far and away the majority of your damage.

Yeah... and I litterally could not do a single SB using 2-3 swd unless I didn't use CA to skill chain every 2 min. Between all the dmg spells and keeping myself alive just wasn't time to get 200% tp

This, this and this again. Besides Haste > double attack, it's been proven time and time again. Non-deminishing returns > deminishing returns

It's not an issue of diminishing vs nondiminishing returns though, because both STR and DA exhibit diminishing returns. It's the fact that you'd sacrifice a moderate increase to 90% of your DPS for a slightly larger increase to ~20% of your damage, and I'm being generous when I say 20%. Proportionally, it doesn't add up.

EDIT: Also, NQ Khanda isn't exactly hot stuff these days.

My swords are pretty gimp by todays standards, I just haven't gotten around to doing any trials. Having said that, I'm using Machaera (not +1) and second stage DA Antea (strong version), so my melee phase isn't the best, but it's fairly well up there.

Looking over some of my Abyssea parses though, my damage split is about 20/5/75 for melee/ws/spell. I tp in brutal earring and use OAT sword in off-hand, I don't use atma but I do set DA trait, so that puts me at 15% DA, plus my 40% proc rate OAT sword. Regardless of the fact that DA trait doesn't stack with OAT proc rate, that should give me around about 30-35% DA rate spread across both hands. But even still, my melee damage is only a fifth of my total damage in abyssea.

tl,dr; focus on where the majority of your damage lies. Outside of abyssea with only your own refresh to rely on, DA will be more worthwhile, otherwise, focus on your spells.
