I don't play this game all that hardcore. My gear is mediocre at best, but I have all my Blue Magic spells and a slew of subs at my command.

Now that I'm Lv.82 and on my way to 85, I'm slowly starting to make my way to the merit end of the table as well. So now I'm wondering just what's the best shot for meriting for Blue Mage.

I have a current bare-bones plan underway:
- 5 Physical Potency (I have 1 in this so far)
- 5 Magical Accuracy
- At least 1 Diffusion
- At least 1 Convergence
- 5 Assimilation
(And of course the typical Sword skill for Combat skills and Blue Magic skill for Magic skills, etc)

With Efflux now, I can't find myself ever really needing Enchainment, but I also don't know anything about min-maxing. Any suggestions?

Hmm? The two stack, though Enchainment only applies during CA as always. I find I usually split CA and Efflux unless I'm going for epeen damage though.

Personally, I'm

5/5 Physical Potency
5/5 Magic Accuracy

5/5 Assimilation
3/5 Enchainment
1/5 Diffusion
1/5 Convergence

Used to be 4/5 Convergence before the last update (instead of Enchainment), but with a strong Damage varies with TP spell for self-SC and me doing a fair bit of melee work these days it made more sense for me to put a few merits into Enchainment. Still keep one merit in there for the occasional single-target debuff or damage boost on a nuke. I'd recommend the same setup for you unless you have specific situations in mind that would benefit from a different, more tailored setup.

I have these same merits myself; I'd say go for 'em too.. can't really go wrong with this style imo.

If I weren't so lazy, I'd go for
5/5 physical, 5/5 CA recast (mostly because I don't do too much n00king on blu, nor would I expect a casual to)
Then 5/5 enchainment and probably 5/5 assimilation. I personally find the other two worthless because of their 10 minute recasts and limited uses. Maybe 4/5 assimilation, 1/5 diffusion if you fancy yourself a BLU tank. Which can be fun, admittedly, but not really necessary with Fantod, considering the amount of hate it generates and the super short recast.

I am currently:

5/5 Phys potency
5/5 Magic acc
5/5 Enchainment
1/5 Conv
1/5 Diff
3/5 Assimilation

While the other 2 points for setting spells would be nice, I find the 50tp in CA to be a very nice bonus, especailly considering with my spell setup i would only be setting another str point or something. And in abyssea (and what else is this game now) theres plenty of stat boost atmas and abyssites etc, so yeah...
